The Bonavista Archives has been established by the Bonavista Historical Society in partnership with the Town of Bonavista and the Bonavista Historic Townscape Foundation.
The Archives began as a natural outgrowth of the collection and research done by the Bonavista Historical Society and the Bonavista Museum. The collection began with a few genealogy related items and grew into a substantial collection which now includes church records from thirteen communities in the area.
The Archives has since grown to include business ledgers, indentures, photographs, postcards, maps, architectural plans, and audiotapes.
The Archives' textual records date from the 18th to the 20th century. They include material relating to the history of the town and citizens of Bonavista and the surrounding area. These records include business ledgers; indentures; photographs; postcards; maps; architectural plans; audiotapes; and church records. Finding aids are available for some holdings.

Research / Reference Services and Fees
For researchers visiting the Archives in person, there is a research fee. For those unable to visit the Archives in person, or unable to have someone visit the Archives on their behalf, the staff of the Archives can provide limited research services as outlined in the Research / References Services and Fees list.
"Research / Reference Service" involves examining the records held within the Archives in order to provide specific information relating to a research request. Those requesting geneology information are required to submit the Geneology Research Request Form. "Research / Reference Service Fees" are based on staff time, not on whether information is found.
We're committed to assisting everyone who contacts us, but because we are have a small staff it can sometimes take several weeks to process an individual request. Please allow 4 - 6 weeks for a completed request.
