What is a Tourism Accommodation Tax?
The Tourism Accommodation Tax is a tool that allows the Town to generate revenue in support of tourism and facilitate the Town's development as a tourist destination. The Tourism Levy (Tourism Accommodation Tax) is a fee that will be collected by accommodation owners/operators based on 4% of the units nightly rate.
If a nightly rate is $120.00, the accommodation owner will remit $4.80 for each night their accommodation is booked. (30 nights booked x $4.80 = $144.00)

When do I have to pay the Tourism Accommodation Tax?
This Tourism Levy will be remitted to the Town of Bonavista each quarter throughout the year (March 31, June 30, September 30 and December 31).
How do I remit my payment to the Town?
Please submit payment to the Town of Bonavista by completing a Bonavista Tourism Levy Remittance Form and forwarding it to the Tourism & Communications Coordinator. Once the form has been received, an invoice will be issued promptly. Payments must then be made in a timely manner, either in person at the Town Hall or by phone.
What happens if I do not remit to the Town?
The Tourism Levy is mandatory and must be remitted by all accommodation owners and operators to the Town of Bonavista.
If the levy is not remitted, the Town reserves the right to assess the amount owing based on the number of units, a reasonable nightly rate, and 100% occupancy for the quarter. In addition, any unpaid levies will be subject to interest charges of 3% per month until paid in full.
What will the funds that are collected be used for?
As per legislation, all revenue generated through the tax will be reinvested directly into the community, supporting infrastructure improvements, community services, and local development initiatives.
