Municipal Election Information, 2025:

The next municipal election in the town of Bonavista will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

 

Residents can vote for one Mayor and six Councillors, giving them a voice in selecting officials who will make decisions on behalf of the Town and its residents. In-person voting options are available for all residents, and proxy certificates are also permitted.

Are you on the Voters List?

If you have moved to Bonavista since 2021, have someone in your household who will be voting for the first time (turning 18 by Election Day), or if you have changed streets since 2021, we need your updated information.

 

To ensure we have an accurate Voter List and to avoid delays on Election Day, please provide the following information:

- Legal Name

- Civic Address

- Phone Number

 

To update your contact information with the Town of Bonavista, you can choose one of the following options:

- Fill out a form (available below)

- Call in with your updated information

- Email your information to the Town Hall

 

By updating your contact information, you will help make the voting process smoother on Election Day.​​​

 

Voter Registration (Deadline Monday, September 1st, 2025)​

  • Not on the list? Contact Stephanie Lodge at 709-468-7747 or info@townofbonavista.com before Monday, September 1st where the Returning Officer shall, upon satisfactory proof being provided to her, correct that error by inserting the name onto the list.

  • Missed the deadline? On election day, a resident whose name does not appear upon the voters' list and is qualified to vote may vote upon taking an oath or affirmation in the required form.

Voter Eligibility

To vote, you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen;

  • Be 18 years or older;

  • Have resided in Bonavista for the 30 days prior to Election Day.

Residency Rules:

a) a person shall be a resident of the place where he or she or they lives and sleeps and to which, when absent, he or she or they intends to return;

b) residency is not lost by a person who leaves that resident for temporary purposes only; and

c) the place where a person’s family resides shall be his or her or their resident unless that person commences and continues to live at some other place with the intention of remaining there, in which case, the person shall be considered to be resident in the place which he or she or they intends to reside.

d) a person shall have only one place of residency.

Where to Vote (Election Day)

The Town of Bonavista is made up of 7 electoral polling divisions.

  • Divisions 1, 2, 3, & 4  vote at the Bonavista Lions Club (35 Church Street)

  • Divisions 5, 6, & 7 vote at the Bonavista Memorial United Church Hall (55 Cape Shore Road)
