The Town of Bonavista is currently accepting applications for a qualified individual to join our professional team. This is a unionized temporary full-time maternity leave replacement until the return of the current. This position reports directly to the Economic, Culture, and Heritage Officer (ECHO) and is primarily responsible for implementing and collecting the Tourism Levy, assisting the ECHO with promoting various economic development initiatives, and ensuring the public receives important information in a timely and appropriate manner.

 

Wage: As per the Union Agreement

Duration of Position: Maternity Leave Replacement (Temporary Full-time). Occasional evenings/weekends may be required for special events and functions.

 

Under the direction of the Economic, Culture and Heritage Officer (ECHO), the full-time Tourism & Communications Coordinator performs duties as follows, but is not limited to:

 

  • Implement and manage the Tourism Accommodation Levy for tourism establishments within the community. This includes maintaining a database of accommodations, preparing invoices/statements for billing, following up on payment of levy/remittance to the town and ensuring all tourism operators in the area are compliant with municipal by-laws.

  • Assist with developing marketing and information materials to promote the community and provide regular tourism-related updates to the Town’s website and social media.

  • Assisting in the implementation of town goals, objectives, policies, and procedures related to tourism activities.

  • Work collaboratively with various community associations and organizations, including but not limited to the Garrick, Matthew Legacy, Bonavista Museum, historic sites, Chamber of Commerce etc.

  • Assisting with organizing special and seasonal events and festivals.

  • Assist with proposal development for grants and funding related to tourism, conducting research and preparing reports, and identifying new opportunities for increased tourism economic benefits.

  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels with residents through newsletters, social media, and other digital platforms. Create engaging content that highlights municipal achievements, community news, and opportunities for residents to get involved.

  • Respond to inquiries for information through Municipal social media, website, and general email account.

  • Ensure the public receives important information in a timely and appropriate manner.

  • Performs other related work as required.



    Qualifications needed to fill this position:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to liaise with community groups, stakeholders and the tourism industry.

  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of website and graphic design.

  • Ability to work independently, within large teams, or to lead a team, both cohesively and efficiently.

  • High level of skills in the production of information and communication material.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Strong management, administrative, organizational and project management ability.

  • Creativity and innovative strategic thinking, along with good PR and marketing skills.

  • Familiarity with multimedia communication tools such as video, audio, slides, desktop publishing, photography, graphic design and print production techniques and processes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and making presentations.

 

This position is open to all applicants. Experience providing front-line customer service would be an asset. The successful applicant must provide a Certificate of Conduct and must be eligible to work in Canada.
