Important Information for Residents in the Area

Bulldog Contracting Ltd. is providing this notice to homeowners and residents in the vicinity of the Bonavista Water Tower regarding upcoming work associated with the dismantling and removal of the structure.

PROJECT UPDATE

Preparations to dismantle the Bonavista Water Tower will begin Aug 12.

Since the contract was awarded in the fall of last year, Bulldog Contracting Ltd. has worked closely with engineers from multiple firms, along with other specialized consultants, to develop a plan to dismantle the water tower quickly, safely, and with minimal disruption to the surrounding community.

Bulldog Contracting has also engaged multiple specialized subcontractors who are experts in their respective fields to assist with the project.

HOW THE WATER TOWER WILL BE REMOVED

The dismantling plan has been developed to remove the water tower in large sections. These sections will then be transported by truck along the roadway to a designated laydown area, where they will be further dismantled.

This approach is intended to significantly reduce the amount of time that major construction activities and associated disruptions are taking place directly within the residential area.

Prior to developing the rigging and lifting plan, the existing structure was thoroughly inspected, and testing was completed to assess the soundness and condition of the water tower.

TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES

Bulldog Contracting Ltd. will make every effort to minimize traffic congestion and disruption in the area. However, temporary road closures will be necessary during certain lifting and dismantling operations.

During lifting operations and related preparations:

Coster Street will be closed to through traffic between Strathies Road and Canon Bayley Road.

Flaggers will be positioned at the road barricades to assist with traffic control.

Residents who live within the temporarily closed section of Coster Street should speak with the flaggers if they need to access their property. Residents will be permitted to drive around the barricades when it is safe to do so.

For certain critical operations, residents may be asked to wait for a few minutes until the operation has been completed and it is safe to proceed.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS

Temporary parking restrictions will be required in advance of critical lifting and transportation operations.

Parking will not be permitted on Coster Street between Strathies Road and Elliston Road during these operations.

Oversize loads will require the full width of the roadway, including the shoulders, in order to safely transport sections of the water tower.

Advance notices will be posted when the dates and timing of these critical moves have been confirmed.

HELPING US KEEP THE PROJECT SAFE

We understand that construction activities of this nature can cause temporary inconvenience for residents in the area. Bulldog Contracting Ltd. is committed to completing this work as safely, efficiently, and quickly as possible.

We ask that residents and members of the public please respect temporary barricades, parking restrictions, traffic-control personnel, and designated work areas.

Please give our crews and specialized contractors the space they need to safely complete these critical operations.

Your cooperation will help us make this a successful and safe project for the Town of Bonavista.
