The Town of Bonavista is pleased to share that 12 nominees have put their names forward for Town Council. As only one candidate was nominated for Mayor, they have been declared elected by acclamation (no mayoral election required). An election for Councillors will take place on October 2nd. Residents are invited to a “Meet the Candidates” Night on September 17th, 7:00 p.m. at the Bonavista Fire Hall. This is a great opportunity to hear from the candidates and learn more about their vision for our community. Beginning January 1, 2026 , the Town of Bonavista will introduce a 4% tax on the nightly rate of all tourist accommodations . Accommodation providers will be responsible for collecting this tax and remitting it to the Town on a quarterly basis. All revenue generated through the Tourist Accommodation Tax will be reinvested directly into the community, supporting infrastructure improvements, community services, and local development initiatives. To help with the transition, the Town will be providing informational materials and hosting an information session in the coming months to explain the implementation process and address any questions from accommodation owners and residents.
