  • Employment Opportunity - Tourism & Communications Coordinator (MATERNITY LEAVE REPLACEMENT)

    The Town of Bonavista is currently accepting applications for a qualified individual to join our professional team. This is a unionized temporary full-time maternity leave replacement until the return of the current. This position reports directly to the Economic, Culture, and Heritage Officer (ECHO) and is primarily responsible for implementing and collecting the Tourism Levy, assisting the ECHO with promoting various economic development initiatives, and ensuring the public receives important information in a timely and appropriate manner.   Wage: As per the Union Agreement Duration of Position: Maternity Leave Replacement (Temporary Full-time). Occasional evenings/weekends may be required for special events and functions.   Under the direction of the Economic, Culture and Heritage Officer (ECHO), the full-time Tourism & Communications Coordinator performs duties as follows, but is not limited to:   Implement and manage the Tourism Accommodation Levy for tourism establishments within the community. This includes maintaining a database of accommodations, preparing invoices/statements for billing, following up on payment of levy/remittance to the town and ensuring all tourism operators in the area are compliant with municipal by-laws. Assist with developing marketing and information materials to promote the community and provide regular tourism-related updates to the Town’s website and social media. Assisting in the implementation of town goals, objectives, policies, and procedures related to tourism activities. Work collaboratively with various community associations and organizations, including but not limited to the Garrick, Matthew Legacy, Bonavista Museum, historic sites, Chamber of Commerce etc. Assisting with organizing special and seasonal events and festivals. Assist with proposal development for grants and funding related to tourism, conducting research and preparing reports, and identifying new opportunities for increased tourism economic benefits. Develop and maintain effective communication channels with residents through newsletters, social media, and other digital platforms. Create engaging content that highlights municipal achievements, community news, and opportunities for residents to get involved. Respond to inquiries for information through Municipal social media, website, and general email account. Ensure the public receives important information in a timely and appropriate manner. Performs other related work as required. Qualifications needed to fill this position: Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills. Ability to liaise with community groups, stakeholders and the tourism industry. Excellent computer skills with knowledge of website and graphic design. Ability to work independently, within large teams, or to lead a team, both cohesively and efficiently. High level of skills in the production of information and communication material. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Strong management, administrative, organizational and project management ability. Creativity and innovative strategic thinking, along with good PR and marketing skills. Familiarity with multimedia communication tools such as video, audio, slides, desktop publishing, photography, graphic design and print production techniques and processes. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and making presentations.   This position is open to all applicants.   • NOTICE OF CANDIDATES

    The Town of Bonavista is pleased to share that 12 nominees have put their names forward for Town Council. As only one candidate was nominated for Mayor, they have been declared elected by acclamation (no mayoral election required). An election for Councillors will take place on October 2nd. Residents are invited to a “Meet the Candidates” Night on September 17th, 7:00 p.m. at the Bonavista Fire Hall. This is a great opportunity to hear from the candidates and learn more about their vision for our community.   • Tourist Accommodation Tax

    Beginning January 1, 2026 , the Town of Bonavista will introduce a 4% tax on the nightly rate of all tourist accommodations . Accommodation providers will be responsible for collecting this tax and remitting it to the Town on a quarterly basis. All revenue generated through the Tourist Accommodation Tax will be reinvested directly into the community, supporting infrastructure improvements, community services, and local development initiatives. To help with the transition, the Town will be providing informational materials and hosting an information session in the coming months to explain the implementation process and address any questions from accommodation owners and residents. This type of business is identified as a discretionary use in the Residential (RES) Zone of the Town of Bonavista Development Regulations, 2014 -2024.   • Memorial Day Service

    The Town of Bonavista will host a Memorial Day Observance on Tuesday, July 1, 2024, at the War Memorial, commencing at 4:00 PM. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held at Bonavista Memorial United Church. We extend an invitation to all groups, organizations, and individuals to partake in this event by attending the service. Those who wish to lay a wreath are cordially invited to do so.

  • CEEP Job Opportunity

    The Town of Bonavista has received Community Enhancement Employment Program funding and is seeking a Foreperson and Labourers to repair/restore Fish Flakes within the community. All workers must provide their own safety equipment. One applicant must have a valid first aid certificate and all applicants must be in receipt of EI or be EI eligible. The expected project start date is October 6th, 2025. The positions pay minimum wage. Individuals must be currently unemployed to be eligible to work on the project. Individuals must provide all previous Record(s) of Employment since their last EI allocation. Individuals must have at least 20 hours to qualify.  Individuals can only be employed for up to 400 hours. Individuals must qualify for EI by the end of the project.
