  • Immediate Mandatory Water Ban Order in Effect

Attention Bonavista Residents: Due to ongoing dry conditions, our community’s water supply is now at a critically low level. Effective immediately, a Water Usage Ban is in place  to protect our essential supply. This is not a precaution — it’s a necessity. With the high fire index  in our region, every drop counts. If a fire emergency occurs, our fire department must have the water it needs to protect lives, homes, and our community. Without your cooperation, we risk facing dangerous shortages. If water usage does not decrease immediately, there is a high potential that all community water services will be temporarily shut off to conserve our remaining supply. Do your part — let’s not get to that point. Your cooperation is essential. By conserving water now, we can protect our supply for drinking, sanitation, and emergency services — and avoid more severe restrictions later. Enforcement : Town staff will be actively monitoring compliance with this Order. Violators may be subject to penalties. Thank you for doing your part to keep Bonavista safe and supplied. Prohibited Until Further Notice Stop all non-essential water use , including: Washing vehicles Watering lawns, gardens, or flowers Filling swimming pools, hot tubs, or ponds, etc. Any other unnecessary outdoor water use How You Can Help Indoors Small changes make a big difference: Take shorter showers (skip baths for now) Turn off taps when brushing teeth or shaving Postpone laundry and dishwasher use Hand wash dishes with minimal water Use collected rainwater for plants (if available) Town Measures All hydrant flushing is suspended The Neck Road splash pad  will remain closed Public Works is monitoring supply levels daily

  • Public Advisory: Water Conservation & Wildfire Preparedness

Due to extreme dry and drought conditions, the Town of Bonavista is asking all residents to take important steps to help protect our community’s water supply and prepare for potential wildfire risks. Water Conservation: Our water reservoir is extremely low. This situation is extremely serious—we must all take immediate action to conserve water and prevent a critical shortage. Please follow the current water ban: - No lawn or garden watering - No washing vehicles or driveways - Limit non-essential water use indoors and outdoors Every drop counts – your cooperation is vital to ensuring water remains available for everyone. Wildfire Preparedness: With ongoing heat and drought, wildfire risk is extreme in our province. Residents, especially those in wooded areas and in the community of Spillars Cove, should be prepared in case of an emergency. Be Ready: - Know your evacuation routes and listen for official alerts - Prepare a “Go-Bag” with ID, important documents, medications, chargers, clothes, food, water, and pet supplies - Before leaving, close all windows and doors, turn off gas/propane, and move flammable items away from your home - Help others by checking in on neighbours, especially seniors or those without transportation Stay Informed: Follow updates from: - Government of NL - Town of Bonavista - Local news and official weather apps The Town of Bonavista has emergency measures in place should a situation occur, and we will communicate updates promptly through official channels. By working together—calmly and responsibly—we can protect our water supply, stay safe from wildfire risks, and support our neighbours. Our thoughts are with all Towns affected by past and ongoing fires. Thank you to everyone doing their part.
